ShareRobert Schneider is everywhere these days, mixing the recent Dressy Bessy release and popping up as a collaborator and producer on a host of Elephant 6-related projects. But he’s not one to neglect his day job as main man for the impossibly poppy Apples In Stereo. Her Wallpaper Reverie is intended as a mini concept album and a bridge between the Beatles ode that was Tone Soul Revolution and the new full-length due in January 2000, which based on this latest effort, suggests the Apples are headed into new territory. These seven songs and eight instrumentals are the most psychedelic of Schneider’s career—“Strawberryfire” lights the way to what is hopefully a more trippy musical future for the Apples.

The band sounds completely energized, and although a series of disco-influenced albums might not be advisable, for the moment this present direction infuses the band with fresh momentum and should draw the attention of a new fan base.
