Ska, ska and more ska is the theme for Beantown-based Big D & The Kids Table. Whether you’re feeling that bouncing, elbows-flailing dance beat on “Steady Riot” or on the tight but pleasing “Noise Complaint”, the group makes fun but rather unmemorable tunes. Yet when they slow things down, things come more to life as is the case with the head-bobbing “Shining On”. The first real gem here has to be the radio-friendly ditty “Souped-Up Vinyl”, resembling a good mash-up between Less Than Jake and They Might Be Giants. Other nuggets include “Try Out Your Voice” and the rampant and political “Hell on Earth”, packing a much needed kick in the pants. Too often for every good song there are yawns like “Raw Revolution” and “Relocate the Beat”.
