David Ford

I Sincerely Apologize For All The Trouble I’ve Caused

(Columbia; US: 2 May 2006; UK: 3 Oct 2005)

David Ford is the new breed angry young singer/songwriter

David Ford is a strange animal, one not previously catalogued by Animal Planet explorers. He’s a singer/songwriter and an angry young man—both at the same time. Who knows how this crossbreeding happened, but he’s nonetheless a smart creature well worth studying.  In the song “State of the Union”, Ford sarcastically announces: “With friends like these, who needs politicians?” Something tells me Mr. Ford has trouble finding takers for his dinner party invitations. Ford isn’t afraid to drop a few F-bombs here and there either, as he does during “Cheer Up (You Miserable F***).” Ford sings all of these vitriolic little numbers over folk-rock arrangements. “What Would You Have Me Do?” stands out for its violin solo, and “I Don’t Care What You Call Me” features a harmonica solo. “Don’t Tell Me” even has a little twang-y guitar. David Ford answers the hypothetical question: What would happen if Elvis Costello possessed James Taylor’s body?

Rating:

Dan MacIntosh is a freelance writer from Bellflower, California, “The friendly city”. He’s married with two children, two cats, one dog, one bunny, and one bird. He earned his B.A. degree in Communications (emphasis Public Relations) from California State University, Fullerton in 1986. By day, he works for a software company (Ah, but doesn’t everybody these days?), and in the evenings he works at Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts where he is hardly recognizable in a suit and tie. He also dearly loves his church, Calvary Baptist Church, Bellflower, where he is a deacon, a praise choir member, and a small group leader. He also plays guitar, but mainly in the privacy of his home.
