Much is the same with God’s Own Country the Movement Volume 1, a cultural and sonic merge of the African and the African American experience as collaged on the influential canvas of a DJ Green Lantern’s mixtape. As the source of inspiration, DJ Green Lantern has deemed this first volume as the official soundtrack to the original film God’s Own Country, highlighted UK Rapper Dizzee Rascal’s clinic on maneuvering the treacherous rap game on “Hard Back Industry” and Akon’s “Mama Africa”, a mixtape aesthetic bounces from brutal American gangster rap to reggae reclamation of African pride. A diverse 21-track tapestry of cadences of established rappers and upstarts from France, Africa and the US that once the banging beats subside lead you to contemplate the lyrical aftertaste should you so choose.
