The track “Slip on Through” may just bring back memories of Huey Lewis & the News for many listeners. With it propulsive rhythm, every-man vocal, and (especially) harmonica, it offers a less polished version of those ‘80s pop stars. But whereas Huey Lewis came off cold and calculated, Down The Line performs with far more sincerity. This is a bar band that doesn’t exhibit ambitions of being a slick concert group. Instead, it sings songs about real people, for real people. These tracks are filled with warm, easygoing guitar work, and similarly warm singing. Pop musicians can be far too pretentious at times. Most would change the world if they could, but there are few Bonos out there talking face-to-face with world politicians. Don’t expect to see Down The Line at The White House. But don’t be surprised to see them raising the roof at your local watering hole.
