The debut from this Vancouver group has a shimmering, slick and glossy power pop/punk sound which is along the lines of Sum 41 and Simple Plan. A radio-friendly tune like “24 Story Love Affair” has all the right hooks for a summer drive. Fans of Yellowcard would probably enjoy this stuff minus the violin. A perfect example of this is the textured “Tongue Tied” that works the same way the identical song works for nearly 200 other bands. The power ballad here is “Second Chance”, which brings to mind Hoobastank. Things marginally improve with “Sleepless Nights (Never Let Her Go)” but still it sounds like it’s a song that’s been so perfected that it’s lost at least something (at worst a lot) from start to finish. But the band does nail the perky, choppy and bouncy “Killin’ Me”, and later on with “Time Bomb”. But unfortunately, “When I’m With You” takes things down again to a mediocre level. Safe and tidy in this instance, Faber Drive will hopefully take more chances next time around.
