ShareCreepy is a word often associated with Hannah Fury and for good reason. While not quite as odd as Diamanda Galas, Fury ensures that there will be plenty of unnerving yet simultaneously beautiful moments on this record beginning with the haunting, crawling “Defenestration” and then on the precious, delicate “No Man Alive”. This isn’t a collection of songs so much as one interesting journey, with Hannah Fury rarely giving clues as to what will come next. While not exactly resembling Enya or Dead Can Dance, there are certain textures to her music which bring those artists to mind, especially on the lullaby-esque “Don’t Be Scared” with its spooky effects and cries in the distance. Following an Enigma-ish “Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II”, Fury nails the gorgeous “You Don’t Leave a Trace” that is pure bliss á la Kate Bush. “You Had Me” and “Carousel” have a light and airy tone that an artist like Tori Amos can only someday aspire to. The homestretch begins with the appealing “Girls That Glitter Love the Dark” which shines for six lovely minutes.
