ShareA three-song EP by Jan—otherwise known to friends and family as Jeaneen Gauthier—is rife with simple, tender indie pop. Fans of The Blake Babies or Julie Doiron’s sound would enjoy most of the material here, albeit being three songs and clocking under 15 minutes. “Juliet Was the Sun” kicks things off and is a great opening number but the real gem on the EP is The Sundays-like “Talk of Love” that glides along thanks to a great but subtle bass line. The only problem is that Jan leaves you wanting so much more. Nonetheless, this rather strong teaser of a release concludes with “Heaven” (not the Bryan Adams sappy ballad), another light and poppy bit of music that would do well somewhere between 10,000 Maniacs and Natalie Merchant.
