Johnny and the MoonJohnny and the Moon(Kill Devil Hills) US release date: 12 June 2007 UK release date: Available as import By Adam BunchSurprise, surprise! It’s another offshoot from a Canadian indie rock collective. This time it’s Dante DeCaro, current member of Wolf Parade and former Hot Hot Heater, who has taken a break from his regular duties to explore his folksy side with Johnny and the Moon. Recorded in a week, their debut is a loose collection of shuffling acoustic guitars, banjos and harmonicas united by DeCaro’s twangy vocals. The result is a record that sounds nothing like his other projects—Johnny and the Moon is more likely to draw comparison to the ramshackle folk of fellows Canucks like the Deadly Snakes and the FemBots—but does provide more than its fair share of worthy tunes. 10 July 2007Related ArticlesWintersleep + Johnny and the Moon + An Horse: 2 April 2009 - VancouverBy Joshua Kloke12.May.09 Opening with five minutes of instrumental madness amidst a screaming crowd, Wintersleep found their groove almost immediately. |
