She’s Spanish, I’m American stands as a breezy pop flirtation between Rouse and Suay.  Rouse has perfected the art of smooth, dreamy pop, and Suay, who joined him on his most recent Subtitulo tour, possesses breathy, occasionally coquettish vocals that float over Rouse’s smooth arrangements. Lyrically, songs like “Car Crash” (the first single, about the couple’s mutual fear of New York City cab rides) and “These Long Summer Days” are light-hearted diary entries about Rouse’s and Suay’s experiences together. Rouse hands the vocal reins over to Suay for two songs, while another set features the two sharing duet duties. Mainly recorded in Rouse’s and Suay’s apartment, there’s little about these recordings to indicate a small budget other than the occasional drum machine beat.  This five-song EP breezes right along on acoustic guitars, keyboards, electronic blips, and the occasional swell of strings. A little too breezy, perhaps, but give the kids a break; they’re young and in love.
