Singer-songwriter Landon Pigg writes the type of songs that would make one think of a coffee shop. The tender, thoughtful opening title track of this five-song EP brings to mind Ron Sexsmith’s “Beautiful View” song or a tune Tom Brosseau may pen at some point. Meanwhile “Great Companion” sounds like it was directly lifted from Neil Finn’s songbook, containing all of the light, airy, and gorgeous feelings Mr. Crowded House is capable of. Throughout all 20-something minutes, Pigg nails his genre perfectly, especially on “Can’t Let Go” although the cover of “Young at Heart” seems a bit tired and tedious. Unfortunately, instead of saving the best for last, he saves the worst for it as “Magnetismo (Magnetism)” is a rather horrid number that has Pigg definitely forcing or pushing the envelope into a place it shouldn’t go. It starts with promise but ends disappointingly, making for a good but not great EP.
