Les Petits have sweet, soft and memorably crafted tunes, but it’s too bad a handful of them aren’t fully realized or developed. “Chickadee Attack!” is such an example as a simple singer-songwriter nugget is nailed by singer Rebecca Taves, but it clocks in at just under 90 seconds. Meanwhile “Boy Before the Woods (It’s a Prequel)” sounds as if Richard Butler from The Psychedelic Furs decided to take up the mantle for Broken Social Scene. The group creates some magical moments on occasion as is the case with the pretty, delicate “Coyote Attack!” with female and male lead vocals. Yet Les Petits could almost bring a lump to one’s throat with the ethereal “Chronograph #1” with its unusual serenity and tranquil feel. Although there are a few moments that are nothing more than interludes, Les Petits seal the album’s quality with a rather rowdy “Best Tasting Wool in the Whole World”.
