Liars

The Other Side of Mount Heart Attack [CD-single]

(Mute)

So you’re a fan of Liars; you’ve been digging their album Drum’s Not Dead for months; you know how beautiful and naïve the final track is, with its nursery hush, twinkling melody and cracked vocals; you figure this is how Cobain might have sounded if he’d mixed a little MDMA with his H. So, you’re probably not going to buy this new CD single just because it’s got a radio edit. You know what might do it? Maybe a brand new number, “Do As the Birds, Eat the Remains”, with jagged guitars, glitchy drums and fascistic vocal commands. Or maybe a trancey, percussion-heavy remix of “Drum and the Uncomfortable Can”. Probably, though, it’s going to be the four bonus videos, directed by the band. How else are you going to get to see Aaron feasting on a corpse by the sea?

Slipped Discs continues with the return of a '60s pop heartthrob, the best underappreciated hip-hip album of the year, the resurrection of a legendary '80s band, some great beats from M.I.A. and many more. All records that missed our top 70 list last year.

"The Overachievers", the second single from Liars' Sisterworld, may be the most illusive song on the album.
