As one of the legendary figures of early electronic dance music in the mid 80s, it’s perhaps a bit surprising that the massively influential Kurtis Mantronik has been silent for so long, especially as the music he helped create has mutated into a myriad of popular forms. In an attempt to fuse the heady 80s hip-hop beat culture with the diversity of today’s dance scene, I Sing the Body Electric sports an astounding variety of beats, from old skool hip-hop and early house to the currently hip sounds of big beat and drum ‘n’ bass. The lone misstep is the foul-mouthed rapping of Traylude, which seems out of place on this collection. But for folks who dig electronica or dance music, this disc will be essential.
