Push Me on Home represents a long overdue opportunity for a larger audience to recognize what those in and around the Knoxville, Tennessee music scene have known about Mic Harrison for years. Print and radio journalists have showered superlatives while fans have given their adulation and loyalty to the singer-songwriter who has both played with many of the city’s most loved bands and has released a string of well-received solo projects. The album’s ten cuts prove a dynamic mix of honky-tonk country and straight ahead rock, swaggering spirit and sagacious sentiment anchored around Harrison’s twin gifts of melody and charisma, and the raw, yet focused backing he receives from compatriots the High Score. More than half of the album’s tracks not only have radio potential, they have the ingredients to be smash successes. Such songs include up-tempo cuts imbued with Harrison’s likeably rebellious, down-to-earth personality (“Mighty Good Wine”, “Wiser the Whiskey”, “Hey Driver”) and mellower, mid-tempo offerings “The Only Road” and “Devils on Horses”. Though not even approaching the year’s halfway point, it’s not too early to say that when the dust settles on 2007, Push Me on Home will rank among the year’s best Americana albums.
