Twisted is right—not that there’s anything wrong with it. German DJ extraordinaire Panacea has been performing his blend of teutonic hardcore and UK happy dance music since 1992 and has since moved into the drum n’ bass arena as well. Twisted Designz is Panacea’s first U.S. release and is best described as hardcore drum n’ bass, with a strong breakbeat undercurrent and just a bit of trance for good measure.

Tracks like “Airborne” and “Menhater” verge on big beat, then “Death Is Near” provide chill-out ambient moments. The title track is a wild rhythmic ride, with stop and start loops, hyper beats, and a spooky voice track. With all the divisions forming in electronic music, it’s refreshing too hear an artist who couldn’t care less about genres and seemingly takes joy in blasting through them.
