Pop Levi has had a stint in Ladytron, but Ladytron wouldn’t be caught dead doing this low-fi, primal, boogie-fied blues rock Mr. Pop has done here on the title track. The five-song EP is an interesting, trip-riddled trek that makes you think you dropped acid, particularly the title tune, which finds its groove and rides the excrement out of it. Just as engaging, crazy but infectious is “(A Style Called) Crying Chic” that could be the theme song for Reservoir Dogs II. A slight departure from this is the rather run-of-the-mill, psychedelic British blues rock of “Mournin’ Light”, which is something Wolfmother can only hope to sound like at some point. Mr. Pop makes it sound as authentic as the original era, which is a rare feat these days. Meanwhile, “Baby Again” is given a “Midnight Version” for a rootsy, Stones-y country rock vibe as it chugs along while simultaneously sounding like it’s about to fall apart. Mr. Pop then opts to close with “Skip Ghetto”, a folksy Floydian ditty that makes one think of Syd. It is truly bizarre but truly brilliant also.
