Archer Prewitt gets around, man, like so many of his colleagues in the post-rock Chicago scene. Of course, you all know him from The Sea and Cake, but he guested on pal Sam Prekop’s solo debut earlier this year too and now he’s got his own solo album to be proud of. And proud he should be with the shimmering pop near-classic that is White Sky. All breezy, almost-Brazilian at times, pop with Bacharach-esque horns and broad arrangements with lots of breathing room and hooks galore.

Every so often, one is reminded of Nick Drake and even early Pink Floyd, while White Sky skips by all too quickly, leaving you desperately wanting more. Thankfully, given Prewitt’s obvious prolific streak, music fans shouldn’t have to wait to long for this pop master in training to grace our CDs players again soon.
