Robin Guthrie

Everlasting

(Darla)

US release date: 18 September 2006

UK release date: 24 July 2006

By John Bergstrom

Guthrie follows up his recent Continental CD with this four-song EP, making a direct run at fans of Cocteau Twins, for whom he was guitarist/musical director. No surprise, then, that Everlasting sounds just like late-period Cocteau Twins minus Liz Fraser’s unintelligible vocals. The lush guitar textures and seductive, simple melodies are here, and it doesn’t even sound like Guthrie’s switched drum machines. Grand, often beautiful, and completely unnecessary.
