What happens when you mix Brooklyn and New Orleans? If Royal American is any indication, you get 22 minutes worth of good ole’ fashioned rock music with a certain New York sophistication and an undeniably Southern swagger. The melodies in Don’t Waste Water are soulful and oddly familiar. Think of a Heartbreaker-era Ryan Adams album you never knew he made. Singer Pete Thompson’s matter-of-fact, understated vocal delivery lets his talented band mates shine through, including some solid lead guitar work by Clint Newman. It might be tough tracking down this EP (you can get it from their website and on iTunes), but it’s hard to imagine a more perfect soundtrack for summer barbeques and late-night beers on your front porch.
