Sensitive guy rock is all the rage at the moment and Austin’s Silver Scooter is yet another boy pop band jumping on the bandwagon. Mixing Morrissey’s moods with R.E.M.‘s sound and a touch of New Order, Orleans Parish is nothing short of a audio documentary of a relationship breakup. That said, it’s not exactly an upper, plus by the sixth or seventh song, the record gets just a bit musically repetitive. Still, the tunes are good and the mixture of jangly guitars, smooth harmonies, bouncy bass lines, and melancholy make for a good mix. Witness “Sleight of Hand,” which starts out with a downbeat, post-rock angularity, before launching into the brighter, R.E.M.-shaded chorus.
