ShareSummer Cats don’t want you to ignore them, not by a long shot. So what they do is create songs that make you want to go back to The Go-Betweens and other like-minded Aussie bands capable of making stunning and sometimes stellar highbrow pop. Whether it’s the tight and shimmering “Discotheque” that will cause limbs to shake and heads to bob or the closing “Crocodile”, Summer Cats deliver strong summery, breezy and terribly catchy pop in the vein of Belle And Sebastian and The New Pornographers. If there’s one flaw, it might be how it’s just an EP of five nuggets that leaves one definitely wanting more. Nonetheless, the opening “Wild Rice” resembles a Sloan single if they were led by singer Jay Ferguson. Meanwhile, “Hush Puppy” has a bit more spark yet is just as adorable as all the others.
