Love and Lust

(Control Group; US: 18 Mar 2008; UK: Available as import; Canada release date: 22 Apr 2008)

When this Brazilian duo unleashes its debut album later in 2008, it is going to kill people. In just the three original cuts that make up Télépathique’s Love and Lust EP, we are treated to an indie fusion of Goldfrapp synth pop, Kompakt house, and a little taste of drum and bass. The opening title track features a sexy English swagger over synth bass and a rock guitar. “Eu Gosta” is a fast-paced house number that sounds German except for heavy guitar work and telephone recorded Spanish vocals. Closing the sampler, “Deja Vu” turns an old school breaks track into slow drum and bass on the sly, so those not looking for such a thing may not suspect its presence. Hot Tape remixes “Deja Vu” into a straight house cut, but it is clearly inferior to the original and, hence, not the reason you’d want to cop this EP. You’ll come to Love and Lust to taste the anything goes flavor singer Mylene and producer DJ Perferico will be inundating dancefloors with all year. With proper placement on their side, this could be the next Justice.
