The Chicago-based 1900s get by on melody and good vibes. You could do a lot worse. With a coed lineup featuring multiple vocalists and a general penchant for making even sad songs sound uplifting, they’ve earned comparisons to Fleetwood Mac. On the dreamy “Whole of the Law”, they’re apt. But you also have to figure in twee-pop contemporaries like Acid House Kings and more straight-up indie acts such as The Pastels and Sleater-Kinney. Mixing up the harmonies with box organs, Hammonds, and violins as well as sparkiling guitars, this debut EP is sure to charm at least one sock off anyone with an indie-pop pulse.
