Apparently, there’s enough of an indie music scene in Murfreesboro, Tennessee (just outside of Nashville) that a few locals decided it was worth starting their own label to showcase it.  So, with a little help from their Texan friends at the Happy Happy Birthday to Me imprint, they’ve launched their effort with this, the Velcro Stars’ debut full-length, Hiroshima’s Revenge.  And it’s not a bad start.  The album is packed full of jangly, ‘90s-style power-pop; rough-but-catchy hooks, loose-but-able guitar work and approximately-in-tune vocals.  The two-and three-minute pop songs walk a fine line between annoying and endearing, but for the most part the Velcro Stars walk it well.  It’s enough, at the very least, to make you wonder what else might be happening in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
