Sporting four(!) feisty female vocalists backed by drums, bass, guitar, and keys, Brooklyn’s Tralala make peppy, punky, poppy, post-riot grrrl indie rock that combines a classic girl group sound with DIY attitude and a B-52’sy sense of fun. “Yellow Taxi” and “Underdog” show off all the band’s strengths at once, commanding attention with strong popcrafting, the urgency of youth, and an exuberant, carefree feel. Excellent leadoff track “We’re Coming Out” is pure punk rocking Go-Go’s, while “Tallmansville” is a gothic country-tinged post-punk mining tale, like the Raincoats meet the Violent Femmes circa Hallowed Ground. A couple of tracks, “Take Me as I Am” and “Mystery”, don’t quite hit on all cylinders. Mostly, though, Is That The Tralala will get your body bopping and fill you full of glee. This mighty fine disc is a promise of great things to come.
