London grindcore band Trencher is noisy, quick to the point and, well, noisy. The band employs short bursts of testosterone in overdrive—as is the case with 30-second spurts like “Head Trauma” and “Gastronomy”—before fleshing things out with songs like the 64-second “Illuminated Dead”. Think of music you would not want to listen to while having a hangover and then you might get the gist of the rather odd, niche-riddled sound of this album. Anything that can make nu-metal sound melodic is definitely on the fringe as is the case with “Dead at Work” and “Wounds Cordon Bleu”. Punishing and brooding, even with a Casio at work, is the slightly decent “Will to Shit”. The trio does not stray from this sound, seemingly banging the crap out of their instruments when not trying to shred their vocal chords to bits. The trio, which also features “defined scream” vocalist M. Shit, slows things down briefly for “Hispanic Telepathy Attack”. But overall this band is the shit.
