My head jiggled atop my neck and my torso twisted and my brain cheerfully gyrated as this quirky and creative hip hop-based experimental mix of blues, electronica and extraterrestrial laptop tinkering had its way with my members. This Chicago duo says they’re not really headed in any specific artistic direction per se, the only destination is where ever the fly-by-night aesthetic muse may lead them to deliver the off-kilter beats of Stefen Robinson (aka Yea Big) and the lucid multi-cadenced funhouse-style lyrical flow of emcee Kid Static whose intonation pulls from the zeitgeist as he speeds along, slapping and attaching meaning to a hodgepodge of entertaining pop-culture wordplay, a lyrical and sonic style that is clearly allergic to pigeonholes. Sadly, this four track EP is over before you can even say EP. But in the sweet albeit swift passing, “Steady Syringe” stuck in my veins, initiating immediate playbacks with its witty serving of a hometown tribute wrapped around an infectious chorus. “Two cool cats from the city of wind/who do cool tracks start injecting them in/ like a steady syringe/heightened to win/if you tell me your ready then it’s time to begin.”
