by Jonathan Simrin

While we wait for Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame to come out with a follow-up (or prequel?) to his acclaimed film, there is a new sci-fi short from Carl Erik Rinsch gaining a good deal of buzz and making the rounds on the Web. Rinsch, who was at one point in talks to direct the upcoming Alien prequel, made The Gift as part of the Parallel Lines series, which allowed five directors to make their own short films, each using the same, minimalist dialogue. Rinsch’s film The Gift is under five minutes in length and is already sparking interest from Warner Bros. and Fox.
