Grouper - "Alien Observation" (video)

by Timothy Gabriele

21 April 2011

Grouper has cut few singles and splits since her 2008 masterpiece Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill (one of this author’s top ten releases of the 2000s), but anticipation is high for her double album release A I A. Now Grouper’s Liz Harris has released a video for “Alien Observation” directed by Hamish Parkinson filled with plenty of heavy water and a romance that seems to be driven towards the grave. The song is muted and taciturn—a simple hazy melody carries the whole tune- while Harris’s signature mystical coos embed the proceedings with a rich fullness.
