POPMATTERS SPONSOR—Erika Forster, pictured here in a versatile leather jacket from GAP’s upcoming spring collection, represents one third of the talented all-female band known as Au Revoire Simone, which broke onto the musical scene in 2003. Along with bandmates Annie Hart and Heather D’Angelo, Erika is responsible for creating a musical style that is perhaps best described by British Vogue as “dreamy synth-pop”.
Au Revoir Simone employ many instruments and vocal techniques to give their sound its distinctive and memorable tone. Citing inspiration from a bevy of artists ranging from Modest Mouse to Billie Holiday, the artists pride themselves on their successful fusion of styles. On any given track one might detect the melodies of a vintage keyboard, a popping synth drumbeat, or even a tinkling cymbal, underscoring eloquent and emotion- filled lyrics. Yet Au Revoir Simone combine all of these distinctive instruments together effortlessly to create an ethereal and harmonious musical style.
Much like her music, Erika’s look here combines unexpected and playful pairings in a cohesive way to create a style that’s bold and unique. Her pants are basic blue, yet Erika’s red shoes catch the eye and make the outfit truly pop. Whether she’s pairing this daring combination with a printed t-shirt emblazoned with zebras opposite a purple plaid scarf, or an oversized orange sweater, the timeless and adaptable beige leather jacket pulls everything together for a look that is eclectic yet classic at the same time.
