POPMATTERS SPONSOR—Erika Forster, pictured here in a look from GAP’s new spring collection, is no stranger to serendipity. Stepping on board a train in 2003, little did she know that, on that same ride her life would change forever. She would bump into Annie Hart, then a stranger, and the two would share their common dream of starting an all-keyboard band.
Flash forward a few years, and these two women, along with Heather D’Angelo, make up the all-female alternative folk band, Au Revoir Simone. Similarly, few could have anticipated that Pearl Jam’s decision to hold a 1993 concert on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club in the desert of Indio, California, once seen as too dry of a climate to accommodate musical events, would lead to that site becoming host to what is now one of the largest music festivals on the circuit: Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Coachella takes place on two weekends in April (this year April 13-15 and 20-22) and features a variety of artists, both upcoming and established. Because of its unique desert setting temperatures during the day often climb about 100 degrees, and rare cloud cover means little shade for attendees. This year, guests will be treated to performances from some of the current hottest performers, like Bon Iver and Calvin Harris, and, as always, exciting fashion choices will abound. Prominent fashion blog Refinery29 has called Coachella the “Super Bowl of Fashion”, and went on to explain the unique situation faced by Coachella concertgoers by saying “Attendees have to pick their tops, bottoms, sunglasses, dresses, and even makeup to beat the sticky heat and scorching sun. Most of all, the tents, VIP areas, and open fields and are filled with the most stunning, casually dressed celebs and cute concertgoers we’ve ever seen.”
With that in mind, Erika Forster’s outfit pictured here, directly from the GAP spring collection, echoes the trendy and exciting vibe of the festival, but is also practical for the scorching temperatures. Her baby blue top brings out the color of her vivid eyes, and the cloud graphic on the tee matches perfectly with her on-trend white, high-waisted shorts. Additionally, the buttons on the side of the practical and fashionable shorts add a touch of flair to an outfit that is already ideal for perusing one of the year’s most eclectic festivals, and keeping cool while doing it. So, though Au Revoir Simone won’t be performing at this year’s festival, band member Erika Forster’s GAP look is perfectly on point for a trip to Coachella, and for giving new meaning to “looking hot”.
