We Are Hex - "Tongues" (video)

by Cole Waterman

9 January 2014

Soaked in grime, fuming a miasma of toxins as intoxicating as it is noxious, We Are Hex is a hoodoo conjurer’s wet nightmare. Proving this contention is the video the Indianapolis foursome unveiled for new song “Tongues”. The flurry of images, flashing on screen as rapidly as the manic rhythms and jittery guitar lines, feature the band performing in a rotten, moss-strewn mouth. “I go tick / And you go tock / I can dig it / And you cannot,” singer Jilly Weiss sings while convulsing, spitting the lines so fast she sounds overcome with pagan glossolalia. Unrelenting, propulsive and fierce as hell, it’s tailor-made for those who gravitate toward the darker side of the musical spectrum.

We Are Hex released “Tongues” via their Bandcamp page on Monday, 6 January, along with “W.D.M.R.S.”, the latter of which features a guest spot by Coven frontwoman Jinx Dawson. The two songs are to be released on a 7-inch in the spring.
