For those who like their post-punk with a little metallic bite to it, the latest tune by the Austin, Texas outfit Knifight, “Young Lovers”, will do just the trick. As the band’s name indicates, this is some intense, even violent music, with strong vocals bolstered by a pulsating rhythm section.
The band tells PopMatters more about the song and its dark influences: “The inspiration behind ‘Young Lovers’ was H.P. Lovecraft, C.H.U.D., and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. Several years ago, Patrick (synth) and John H (bass) did time together in a sludge/doom band, and we let those influences shine through with some heavy synth drones and a nasty fretless bass riff.”
