Rock music might be at an all-time low ebb these days, but that hasn’t stopped earnest young bands like We Hunt Buffalo from trying like hell to bring some new energy to the stagnant genre. A strong balance of stoner rock heaviness and hard rock hookiness, the trio excelled on their 2013 EP Blood From a Stone, and sound even better on their new album living Ghosts, which comes out 25 September.
The rampaging, melodic new track “Comatose” is a fine example of where the band’s sound is these days. “Living Ghosts is the most dynamic album that we’ve released,” says singer/guitarist Ryan Forsythe. “It has everything from fuzzed out bangers, to dark, moody deep cuts. We’re pleased to have this album as our Fuzzorama Records debut, as it combines elements from both our self released LP (2011) and EP (2013). ‘Comatose’ is probably the most straight-ahead rocker on the record. Lyrically it’s inspired by the ‘90s Canadian TV show The Odyssey, where a boy falls into a coma and is constantly trying to regain consciousness. The song closes out Side A of the record with a guitar solo that fades off into the distance.”
