Sudden Weather Change: Stop! Handgrenade in the Name of Crib Death ‘nderstand?

Sudden Weather Change
Kimi

Do you miss the days when indie rock was loud, fast, and mean? Back when groups like Unrest, Pavement, Chavez, Superchunk, and Slint were more interested in blowing minds than tearing out hearts? Iceland’s Sudden Weather Change certainly do, and the band does its damndest to bring back the good old days of Desert Storm-era bombast with its interestingly titled debut LP. Loud-soft-loud dynamics collide with vintage Dischord Records-style guitar attacks all over Handgrenade, implementing a sound that’s far more Botnleðja than Bjork, as indicated on scorching cuts like “Black Lung” and “Vagina Bleeding”. Sudden Weather Change is the sound of warm lager being unceremoniously spilled all over the calculated preciousness of Sigur Ros’ “Hopelandic” gibberish with the power of an earthquake leveling the city of Reykjavík.
