Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud

(Projekt; US: 10 Jun 2011; UK: Import)

Post-post rock

Pensive, emotionally penetrating post rock. That’s what the price of admission and a little bit of patience with this silver platter will get you. Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud draws inspiration from Slint, Explosions in the Sky, Mono, This Will Destroy You, and Mogwai (whew), among others. What then becomes the group’s “own” sound is hardly original, and it’s not all that invigorating. There’s too much pretty and not enough ugly to make the songs on Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud into well-rounded bouts of passion. You could do worse than this, of course, the musicianship is firmly in the upper echelon and the compositions are not without merit. It’s just that, with all those other post-rock bands on the market, why would you seek out something that doesn’t push the movement into the next dimension?
