A four-song taster of this duo’s debut full-length Lights Out, first single, “Chair”, finds Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe in fine and fuzzy form, working shoegaze/dream pop angles like a pair of underground angels. With no drums or bass to get in the way and lead to overblown arrangements, the gem-like originals, including “Locked Up” and “Mai Joy”, are powerful pop masterpieces. A cover of the Big Star classic “Thirteen” sweetens an already pretty sweet deal––the pair rendering the track as a dark teenage dirge that’s positively affecting. Aside from a not-so-great name it seems like nothing can hold this duo back.
