Avalanche City is the brainchild of Dave Baxter, who’s the latest act to find the perfect ways to modernize more traditional music. The Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons are the two names that immediately spring to mind as bands that he may be soon appearing on bills with—all bands share a similar brand of sentiment in their lyrical approach and similar instrumentation. Where Avalanche City stands out in that grouping is in atmosphere, which can swerve from restrained to bombastic in a matter of seconds but always suits the songs perfectly. Which is undoubtedly part of the reason why Avalanche City’s already a household name in his native New Zealand, where last year he had the honor of recording the fastest-selling debut in the country’s history. Love Love Love will undoubtedly continue his ascension in popularity—except this time, expect it to break out into other countries as well.
