Review [21.Jun.2012]

Jenny Berkel’s Here on a Wire is an album full of hushed sentimentality and sparse wintry arrangements. It’s as captivating as it is haunting, with Berkel’s lyrics providing an elegant layer on their own. Everything blends together to form a seamless whole, thanks in part to perfect sequencing as well as the mixing and mastering portions. Everything works symbiotically to complement everything else. Here on a Wire is another rare case of a uniformly excellent album with no real standout. However, if forced to pick one, it’d be a toss-up between the two tracks in the one-two mid-way punch that is “Watching Your Ghost” and “You Don’t Hesitate”, both fully embodying the spirit of Here on a Wire. Don’t let this one slip past you.
