Part of Australia’s burgeoning collection of jangle-rock purveyors, Bitch Prefect deliver a remarkably concise collection of tracks on their debut full-length, Big Time. It’s a record that not only perfectly represents their carefree yet ultimately desperate aesthetic, but that of the entire sub-genre that’s quickly gaining steam down under.

Bitch Prefect trade complex arrangements for songs driven by simple yet effective hooks. “Sunday” and “Bad Decisions” feature the three-piece’s ability to weave a stream of conscious approach to the lyrics, detailing some of the more monotonous moments in the band’s life into delightful slices of Aussie pop.

The brilliance of Big Time lies in its ability to perfectly represent those which created the record and those which will be attracted to it. The winding push and pull of “Guess The Person” details the simple road trip game of the same name; yet anyone’s who’s played the game, or will subsequently hear Big Time understands that it’s the simple things in life that are often the most memorable.
