Kitsuné Maison Compilation 14 (10 Year Anniversary Issue)

(Kitsuné Maison; US: 15 Oct 2012; UK: 15 Oct 2012)

What makes the new Kitsuné Maison compilation so enchanting is its ability to make all of the appropriate nods to Italo disco, house and electro-pop heroes of yore, without ever feeling dated, retro, or ironic. All of these tracks sound like they were made in the year 2012: totally relevant, poppy as all get-out, and expertly produced. These songs feel warm, happy and sincere, not coldly, jadedly detached like many Italo disco throwbacks that have been tossed around in recent years. Jeepers, there are so many good songs on here! Where do I even begin? There’s that hot Citizens! track early on, which gets things moving in the right direction. “This Summer” by Rüfüs and remixed by Jbag is emotional and soulful and imminently ass-shaking. “Friends” by Saint Michel shows slouches like Chromatics what a shoegaze/Italo disco hybrid is supposed to sound like. Just about every single track on this 17 song compilation is more-or-less guaranteed to fill your heart with joy and put pep in your step. This is apparently Kitsuné Maison’s anniversary compilation. Well happy anniversary guys; you definitely made my weekend happier!
