Upstart label Jazzhaus releases and remasters previously unreleased performances by jazz legends. The latest gems hail from Zoot Sims, Albert Mangelsdorff Quintett and Dizzy Gillespie Quintet.

Zoot Sims: Lost Tapes finds Sims delivering an intriguing concert in Baden-Baden from 1958. Throughout shifting instrumental lineups, Sims lends sax playing and clarinet on dueling feature “Minor Meeting For Two Clarinets”, with Hans Koller. The free-jazz Albert Mangelsdorff Quintett, led by trombonist Mangelsdorff, presents a fascinating concert on Legends Live: Albert Mangelsdorff Quintett(1964). Showing affinity for multi-ethnic music, “Now Jazz Ramwong” and Ravi Shankar’s “Theme from Pater Panchali” highlight. Legends Live: Dizzy Gillespie Quintet (1961), finds trumpeter Gillespie and company explore Duke Ellington’s “The Mooche” in extended, freer fashion. Saxophonist Leo Wright’s flute chops on standard “Willow Weep For Me” are phenomenal.

All-in-all, this trio of albums accentuates any jazz enthusiastic’s collection, introducing historic, quality recordings.
