Crushed Out were formerly known as Boom Chick. This is an important note because it proves this guitar/drums duo of the Brooklynites are making the right decisions. They released a good-to-great EP in 2010 titled Show Pony, from which Want to Give is a definite step up. There’s a sense of urgency and immediacy to the songs on Want to Give that suits the minimal guitar/drums blues-driven format tremendously well. Their reference points are in tact and instead of coming off as imitators of the White Stripes or the Black Keys, they’ve put enough thought into their development to sound entirely themselves. The clean guitar tones and influence choices made Crushed Out a natural choice to play the Big Star Spring Collection party and, once again, proved that this band is making the right decisions. Expect big things from them down the line.
