This self-titled CD has in its liner notes, “Special Thanks to the ‘legendary’ Michael Jackson for hooking us up.” Could it be? This pretty boy band has one jacket page for each of the four members, complete with a sultry picture and filled with thanks to God, the Lord, and Jesus Christ, as well as family, friends, and many, many others. They are good boys who sex it up. Ideal is Swab, PZ, J-Dant’e, and Maverick, the sweet hat-wearing member of the group whose special note to his sister is “Stop eating so much!” That hurts.
This 1999 release features 17 tracks, ranging from 32 seconds to just over five minutes. It’s a slick collection of music that consists of R&B spliced with a bit of hip-hop. The harmonies are smooth, and it’s all about love, baby.
“I Don’t Mind,” “Things You Can’t Do,” “All About You,” “Never Let You Go,” and “Creep Inn” are about getting it on with your honey. “Get Down With Me” and “Break Your Plans” are boy-wants-girl-that’s- with-another-boy-and-so-is-unhappy songs. “Get Gone” and “There’s No Way” have some fine guitar work. “Ideally Yours” features amazing vocal work, and on this track, the band comforts female listeners who are lonely with “sweet melodies.” The song “Tell Me Why” questions a break-up, and “Sexy Dancer” wants a connection.
There isn’t anything original about the music here, but the collection of tracks definitely come together for a fine, solid R&B CD that smoothly shakes and slowly grinds. Candles and a partner are recommended for listening.
