Jeff Healey

Mess of Blues

by Dan MacIntosh

14 July 2008

The late Jeff Healey was a brilliant guitarist, and this live recording captures the man at his fiery best. It also doesn’t hurt that Healey chose an eclectic set list this particular night. Some songs, like “How Blue Can You Get”, are likely familiar to most blues fans. But it’s also cool to hear his take on The Band’s “The Weight” and Neil Young’s famous jam, “Like a Hurricane”. There’s even a cover of Hank Williams’ “Jambalaya”, which shows how truly deep Healey’s record collection was. Healey also sings especially well, as he pours out his heart and soul during these concert renditions. It’s sad that we lost an obvious talent like Healey, but this show document is a wonderful way to remember the man.
