Rocky Balboa

by Dan MacIntosh

15 February 2007

Rocky movies have been with us for three decades now, and these popular films have also provided many memorable musical moments. Bill Conti’s “Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky)” instrumental still gives goose bumps. Can’t you just see Sylvester Stallone drinking raw eggs and running up endless city steps every time you hear its trumpets blow? And where would Survivor have been without “Eye of the Tiger”? The late James Brown got into the action with “Living in America”. Even “Going the Distance”, an example of this film series’ incidental music, brings back visions of Rocky’s bloodied body stepping into the ring against the odds. Much like the fictional Rocky character, this movie music has staying power.
