Here’s Logorama, the Academy Award winner for best animated short, in it’s entirety. Directed by the French collective H5, this 17-minute film features the story of two Michelin men cops chasing down a deranged Ronald McDonald across a Los Angeles cityscape made up entirely of world famous logos (Ronald’s getaway vehicle is even rendered as the motorcycle logo from Grease.....2. While Logorama appears to be a simple and quirky film with a neat visual motif, it’s actually a sly commentary of how corporations permeate our everyday life. According to the directors,
“Logorama presents us with an over-marketed world built only from logos and real trademarks that are destroyed by a series of natural disasters (including an earthquake and a tidal wave of oil). Logotypes are used to describe an alarming universe (similar to the one that we are living in) with all the graphic signs that accompany us everyday in our lives. This over-organized universe is violently transformed by the cataclysm becoming fantastic and absurd. It shows the victory of the creative against the rational, where nature and human fantasy triumph.”
In simpler terms, it’s well worth a watch.
