Richard A. Ingram: Consolamentum

[6 February 2011]

Manchester alt-rockers Oceansize is not exactly the type of act from whom you’d expect to hear anything particularly bold or experimental. But certainly to the surprise of many of its fans, guitarist Richard A. Ingram delivers a solo debut that sounds unlike anything he’s ever crafted with his primary outfit. Consolamentum is a well-hued menagerie of organic and electronic sounds, utilizing an array of nylon string guitar plucks, treated piano plinks, and tape recorder hiss to create a six-song movement that melds elements of folk, drone, field recording, ambient, and doom to deliver a challenging, compelling listen that hopefully Ingram will take with him to the studio the next time Oceansize record a new LP.
