The Mason Brothers stunned nearly everyone with The Sun, The Moon & The Sea and set the expectation bar for a follow-up absurdly high. Under those kinds of circumstances, most artists whose popularity skyrockets after a well-received release fold under the pressure. Not the Mason Brothers. Ghost Season proves that not only did the band keep their composure, but they tightened up and expanded their craft. Their signature blend of style is still the core element of these songs, but by no means does that mean they play things safe.
Ghost Season is a far more textured work than their previous release and it rewards investment even more. The topics brought up are weightier and have more consequence than their previous work. It would’ve been easy for the band to fall into the trap of being over-melancholy, but the songs here are beautiful and balanced. A true standout.
